Everyone, meet Braiden! For years, Braiden has watched YouTube videos of children swinging at playgrounds. Born with Spina Bifida, he has been dependant on his wheelchair and unable to participate like his peers.
During the Grand Opening Ceremony of the Kendyl and Friends Playground, Braiden's dream came true! For the first time in 5 years, he got to experience what it's like to swing! Tears of joy surrounded him as he laughed, smiled, and screamed from excitement!
We would not have been able to provide this swing for children like Braiden without the gifts from our generous donors! Thank you, for believing in our mission and continuing to support Kendyl and Friends Foundation!
Our donors are BEYOND DEDICATED to Kendyl and Friends Foundation! City Commissioner, Scott Moseley challenged us to raise $2,000 in a week! If we met our goal, he would be publicly tasered by the one and only, OFFICER BAKER! As you can see from the video, we nailed the challenge!
Thank you, for every donation that made this possible! Kendyl and Friends Foundation, has been able to provide a $250,000, Special Needs Playground in Mercer County because of our amazing donors. If you feel led to join our mission, provide a donation, or volunteer..please contact us! Without you, we would not be where we are today!
Underneath blue, beautiful skies, the Kendyl and Friends Foundation held the Grand Opening Ceremony for the Kendyl and Friends Playground on May 22nd.
We had 382 registered participants, representing our Commonwealth from 31 different counties! Some of our guests included 70 special needs students that Mercer County and Burgin Schools brought to enjoy the festivities, among many other guests that we were honored to have attend.
The Kendyl and Friends Foundation family would personally like to thank everyone that took the time to attend and support not only our cause, but the special needs and disabled children and their families. We would also like to thank every member of the community for their generous donations that made the playground possible and each volunteer that gave their time and sweat to the building of the playground and that worked our opening ceremony. Without these generous donations of money, time, and service, we wouldn't be able to do what we do!
A very special thanks to Kristyna Coslow Photography, who joined us to ensure the Grand Opening of the playground was captured for all to enjoy.
“Hi, I am Dakota! I have Spina Bifida but Spina Bifida doesn't have me!” -Dakota Pollard, age 12.
Born with Spina Bifida Hydrocephalus and Epilepsy, Doctor's said Dakota would never breathe on his own without a respirator to keep him alive due to his rib cage being deformed. Now 12 years later, Dakota is still defeating the odds on a daily basis. Dakota has over endured 30 surgeries , suffers from severe Epilepsy, relies on metal rods in his back for posture, and is on a routine surgery schedule every 6 months to increase his quality of life. Despite his lengthy medical history, Dakota is a very happy child who loves to participate like typical kids. Unfortunately, limited resources make it harder for his dreams to come true.
In May 12, 2017, Kendyl and Friends Foundation, INC presented Dakota with his new AmTryke Bicycle, a handicap accessible bicycle designed to accommodate riders of all ages who suffer from physical and/or developmental challenges. Now Dakota will get to spend his Summers riding his bike with his friends, strengthening mobility, exercising, developing coordination skills, and having FUN like a typical 12-year-old boy!
“He is my miracle child that God has blessed me with. This bike means the world to him. Now instead of me telling him no, you cannot ride bikes with the other kids I will be able to tell him YES!”
-Jessica Black, Mother of sweet Dakota

Kendyl and Friends Foundation, INC
My daughter, Kendyl, was diagnosed with Meningitis at three weeks old. We were told she would not live to be two months old but God had a different plan for her. We are proud to say Kendyl defeated the odds and she will turn seven in November! Although Kendyl survived this illness, she is severely disabled from the virus she contracted. Kendyl is partially blind in both eyes, non-verbal, has 7 brain tumors, a severely suppressed immune system and is wheelchair dependent but she does not let that stop her from smiling!
Watching my child fight for her life on a daily basis inspired me to always find a way to give back to other families fighting the same battle. From my inspiration, Kendyl and Friends Foundation was founded. We are a 501c3, non-profit, charitable, educational, and financial resources for persons living with disabilities. We strive to raise awareness and give back to those families who are raising special needs children.
To date, Kendyl and Friends Foundation has raised over $250,000! We wanted to provide a life-long resource for special needs children and their families. This desire took the shape of a playground that would be equipped with wheelchair accessible equipment, braille boards, sign language boards, sensory disorder equipment, among other things. Just this month (May 2017), Kendyl and Friends Playground was built, with the blood, sweat and tears supplied by a small group of volunteers. The Grand Opening will take place on May 22, 2017 at 10 AM and we hope the opening is the first of many days that the playgroup will serve special needs and disabled children and their families.
Kendyl and Friends Foundation has been blessed with many hearts who see our mission, believe in us, and continue to support us financially. Thank you, for your support and we are honored that you have given us to opportunity to help other special needs children and their families! We could not deliver our mission without your help and because you choose us, we are FOREVER grateful!
